Families looking for a fun, free, and hands-on weekend activity for their kids can head to Burien’s New Start Community Garden this Saturday, July 26, for a creative outdoor workshop.
The free class – sponsored by the Burien Arts Association – on how to make a pinecone bird feeder will be held at 1 p.m. at the garden, located at 614 SW 120th Street in Burien (map below).
Hosted in a serene garden setting, the workshop is designed to help children engage with nature while learning a simple, eco-friendly craft.
Organizers say it’s a perfect opportunity to get children off screens and into a natural setting where they can use their hands and imaginations.
“It could be a bit messy, but it will be fun! We’ll coat pinecones with peanut butter, seeds, and suet to help attract birds to your garden! Get creative as we decorate our feeders,” organizers said in the event listing.
The event is free and open to the public, with plenty of free parking available. Pre-registration is encouraged via Eventbrite.
The instructor will be Gabee Rafert, thanks to the support of Burien Arts, 4Culture, and ArtsWA.
Attendees are advised to arrive a few minutes early and dress for garden activities.
