Lane and ramp closures on I-5, SR 516 and SR 509 in Burien, Des Moines, SeaTac and Kent continue this week, through the morning of Monday, Aug. 4, 2025, the Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced.

WSDOT said that the lane and ramp closures on I-5 will allow contractor crews to stripe the roadway and install roadway signs.

The lane closures on SR 516 will allow crews to perform electrical work.

The SR 509 lane and ramp closures will allow crews to perform paving and electrical work.

This work is part of the SR 509 Completion Project.

I-5 lane closure information

Monday, July 28 through the morning of Friday, Aug. 1:

  • 9:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. – Up to three lanes of northbound I-5 will close nightly between SR 516 (Exit 149) and South 200th Street/Military Road South (Exit 151).

Monday, July 28 through the morning of Friday, Aug. 1:

  • 11:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. – Up to two lanes of southbound I-5 will close nightly between South 200th Street/Military Road South (Exit 151) and SR 516 (Exit 149).

I-5 ramp closure information

Monday, July 28 through the morning of Tuesday, July 29:

  • 9:30 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. – The northbound I-5 exit to SR 516 will close overnight. A signed detour will be in place.

SR 516 lane closure information

Monday, July 28 through the morning of Friday, Aug. 1:

  • 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. – One lane of eastbound and westbound SR 516 will close nightly between SR 99 and Military Road South.

SR 516 ramp closure information

Tuesday, July 29 through the morning of Wednesday, July 30:

  • 11:59 p.m. to 2 a.m. – The eastbound SR 516 ramp to northbound I-5 will close overnight.

Monday, July 28 through the morning of Friday, Aug. 1:

  • 2:30 a.m. to 5 a.m. – The SR 516 ramp to southbound I-5 will close nightly.

SR 509 lane closure information

Monday, July 28 through the morning of Thursday, July 31:

  • 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. – One lane of southbound SR 509 will close nightly between Des Moines Memorial Drive South and South 160th Street

Monday, July 28 through the morning of Friday, Aug. 1:

  • 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. – One of northbound SR 509 will close nightly between South 160th Streetand Des Moines Memorial Drive South.

Monday, July 28 through the morning of Wednesday, July 30:

  • 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The eastbound and westbound South 188th Street exit from southbound SR 509 will close overnight.

Monday, July 28 through the morning of Saturday, Aug. 2:

  • 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The South 160th Street on-ramp to southbound SR 509 will close nightly.

Tuesday, July 29 through the morning of Friday, Aug. 1:

  • 10:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. – The 24th Ave South on-ramp to southbound SR 509 will close nightly.

Sunday, Aug. 3 through the morning of Monday, Aug. 4:

  • 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The eastbound and westbound South 188th Street exit from southbound SR 509 will close overnight.
  • 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The South 160th Street exit from southbound SR 509 will close overnight.

During the SR 509 ramp closures, signed detours will be in place.

SR 509 Completion Project information

The SR 509 Completion Project builds 3 miles of new tolled highway between I-5 and South 188th Street near the south end of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The new highway will be completed in stages. The portion between I-5 and 24th Ave South opened on June 28 and a new tunnel under I-5 at the SR 516 interchange opened on July 16. The final stage builds the remaining 2 miles of the expressway between 24th Ave South and South 188th Street. The entire project is planned for completion by 2029.

Puget Sound Gateway Program overview

The SR 509 Completion Project is part of WSDOT’s Puget Sound Gateway Program, which also includes the SR 167 Completion Project in Pierce County. Together, the two completion projects finish critical missing links in Washington’s highway and freight network.
