A man was arrested in Burien late Wednesday, Mar. 4 after deputies located a suspect who fled from a stolen vehicle spotted earlier by police in nearby SeaTac, according to the Burien Police Department.

Police said the incident began when SeaTac Police officers spotted a stolen vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. The driver failed to stop and eluded officers.

About 30 minutes later, Burien deputies spotted the same vehicle near S. 128th Street and 8th Ave South. Deputies followed the truck but did not initiate a traffic stop while waiting for additional backup units, police said.

Authorities said the driver began driving erratically after noticing the deputies behind him. The vehicle reportedly swerved out of its lane and ran several red lights before deputies briefly lost sight of it.

When deputies caught up, they found the truck abandoned.

Witnesses told deputies they saw a man running from the vehicle. Deputies searched the area and located a male suspect nearby, who was arrested on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle.

After arriving at the King County Jail, the suspect claimed he had swallowed fentanyl. Jail staff medically declined the booking, according to police.

A Burien deputy transported the suspect to a hospital, where he was medically evaluated and cleared.

The suspect was then transported back to the jail and successfully booked. Police said charges have been filed with the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
