Highline High School’s Pirates football team opened its 2025 season Friday night, Sept. 5 with a tough 38-20 loss to rival Mt. Rainier Rams in the second annual “Waterfront Cup” matchup at Highline Memorial Stadium.

The Pirates (0-1) kept the game within reach but could not slow down the Rams’ balanced offense, eventually losing by three touchdowns.

Despite the defeat, Highline showed grit in its home opener and will look to regroup for the rest of the 2025 season.

The matchup carried extra weight as the Rams, representing Des Moines in the 4A North Puget Sound League, and the Pirates, representing Burien, are longtime south King County rivals.
