Marty Hawkins, 78, of Federal Way, Washington, passed away on August 9, 2025 in Silverdale, Washington at Northwoods Lodge Rehabilitation Facility.

He was born on July 8, 1947, in Los Angeles County, California, to Max and Mildred Hawkins. Marty attended the University of Washington where he graduated with a BA in Education and later a Masters in Administration. He worked as a teacher in is first years in Omak, Washington, then at Decator High School in Federal Way, Washington. He ended his career in the Highline School District where he was an Administrator supervising the ELL Program, counselors, nurses and overseeing the vocational education program. He retired in 2000 after 30 years in education.

After retiring from education Marty enjoyed working in the field of mediation, as a mediator and then as a mentor to new prospects at the Dispute Resolution Center in Tacoma, Washington, where he served over 20 years.

Marty was extremely active in his church. At Southminster Presbyterian Church he served as an elder chairing several different committees. He enjoyed serving on 2 mission trips to the Dominican Republic and went to Bay Saint Lewis to help restore homes destroyed by the Katrina Hurricane. He was very active with the connection to the nonprofit Children of the Nation, which hosted the Dominican Republic trips and also many food bagging events at the church.

Marty married Nancy Schuck on March 19, 1977 and they had two lovely children, Joy and Emily. On February 13, 1999 Marty remarried Paula Grams Aviles and he embraced Paula’s son, Aaron. It wasn’t too long for that relationship to truly bond.  In their 26 years of marriage Marty and Paula enjoyed traveling with friends and created many fabulous family memories at the “Hawk’s Nest” home on Hood Canal. It was a beautiful location for the family to enjoy each other with water sports, boating, laughing, eating and loving on one another.

Marty held Husky tickets for over 40 years and enjoyed attending the games with family and friends. Paula and Marty also enjoyed Mariner tickets with a group they formed to share 20 years of Mariner baseball together. Marty and Paula enjoyed golfing and encouraged the two grandsons to learn the game. As grandparents we loved watching the swim meets of the two grandsons, as well as, long distance running.

Marty is survived by his children Joy Hawkins, Emily Wahlborg, Aaron Aviles (stepson); two grandchildren: Zachary and Oliver Wahlborg; and his brother, Mike Hawkins.
