UPDATE 5 p.m. Sept. 10: An officer-involved shooting that killed one happened when Burien Police officers responded Saturyday, Sept. 10 at about 5:30 a.m. to an apartment on Roseburg Avenue South, after receiving reports of shots fired during a domestic dispute.

Officers from the King County Office of Law Enforcement Oversight (OLEO) responded to the scene on Saturday morning, Sept. 10, 2022. OLEO sent out a Tweet about the incident at 8:32 a.m. Saturday morning.

Police said that upon arriving at the apartment at 12438 Roseburg Avenue South (map below), police found that the individuals reportedly involved in the incident had fled the scene. A few minutes later, officers spotted a person that matched the description of one of the individuals involved in the incident.

The Valley Independent Investigative Team said that deputies found a person matching the description of one of the suspects. The person was contacted, but ultimately ended up being shot by deputies.

Authorities have not yet said exactly what caused the officers to fire their weapons.

No officers were injured in the incident, and the four Burien Police officers involved have been placed on administrative leave.

When police use force that results in serious injury or death, OLEO attends the scene, which indicates this may have been an officer-involved shooting. OLEO later reviews the Sheriff’s Office’s internal investigations of these incidents and sits in on the Use of Force Review Board reviews.

“OLEO is dedicated to improving the lives of King County residents through its independent oversight of the Sheriff’s Office,” the agency says on its website. “We aim to further policing standards that are driven by community and rooted in equity through objective reviews, independent investigations, and evidence-based policy recommendations.”

The Valley Investigative Team (VIT) – a multi-agency team made up of investigators from Auburn, Des Moines, Federal Way, Kent, Renton, Port of Seattle and Tukwila – is investigating.
