Please bring in ICE/feds to Burien !
Over the last few months the amount of violence and increased crime is appalling. My car was broken into last week while just getting groceries… the negative environment that’s been stewing inside Burien needs to be fixed asap or you won’t have residents wanting to live here! Its start at the top
Crime is not increasing in Burien. It’s been relatively stable since at least 2020, with between 3300 and 4000 cases each year. This year is among the lowest years we’ve had, with only 3440 reported so far, compared to last year’s high of 3900 in the same time period. You can browse the data yourself https://data.kingcounty.gov/Law-Enforcement-Safety/KCSO-Offense-Reports-2020-to-Present/
Obviously that crime drop can be tied to the Camping Ban.
Yes, if your believing the legacy news or any report from KC is factual and/or authentic… some people have lost complete trust for obvious reasons, I dont need to spell that out.. reports show nothing regarding crime in Burien from those officials, I live in reality and see it almost daily so I disagree completely… I dont trust KC or Seattle and I have that right.
Tom has mentioned he lives in Three Tree Point and that alone is why he’s not seeing the day to day reality in downtown, casual visiting is not living it daily.
I do not live in 3TP. I go to businesses downtown almost every single day. I used to visit 3TP regularly when the cafe was there.
I’m not believing “legacy news,” I’m looking at the actual data that we as taxpayers pay KCSO to maintain and report. By all means, if you think that KCSO is falsifying this information, I think you’d have a pretty epic lawsuit on your hands.
“falsifying” ? …. No, not accurate Tom nor was that word used.. One can see its easy to sway people with words, especially the type of people that look only at statistics and/or legacy news to make those decisions. You’re not falsifying information if the details you’ve been given are presented as accurate and you’re also the agency responsible for verifying those truths…
For years n years now, KC and Seattle have clearly demonstrated a very strong political bias on their reporting in general, consistently avoiding any negative coverage on either of their sides and/or governing approaches.
Yeah, trust being lost:

Tom, your glass just isn’t drinkable – sorry.
Carol is speaking about events happening in reality, like leaving her home and adventuring into the city she lives in just to find issues (being described).
Your come back to that concerned citizen was …. ? ? Wow Tom, way to brush it under the rug, huh? Next time though if anyone needs KC statistics im sure they’ll be asking for you. Thankfully we vote in our representatives based on the resident’s concerns, needs, & wants…. including iniatives and ordinances.
We just voted in an overwhelmingly progressive council with wide margins. I think that shows you what voters want, and I think it means that most voters don’t see Burien as a hellscape of crime that many of the commenters on this blog do. If clutching pearls is really the way you folks want to spend your time, that’s fine, but we don’t need to be spreading misinformation calling for federal deployments to our city.
Only half the equation Tom, what you miss is businesses get a vote as well. And that is with their feet. Turn the homeless loose, raise the taxes and wages to the sky, at some point businesses just say enough is enough and leave.
Then Burien collapses. Like Seattle, Portland, San Fran and so many others. Why you and others cannot see that is a mystery to me.
After reading this I’d agree on bringing in ICE and cleaning up Burien, it surely needs it.
Its ok to agree to disagree, but just know your disagreeing with people obviously want more safety, security, and structure in this city. If you have other means of achieving that, well that’s great… lets see your plans.
So by Tom’s logic the past four years of Moderates leading the City Council is why there’s a drop in measurable crime in Burien. So, with that can we expect a rise in crime with a Progressive Council because that’s what the majority of voters want?
What proof do you have that these are non citizens committing these crimes? That is what you are implying by your request for ICE. Is it just that you think they are non white?
For starters: End sanctuary cities, and properly arrest anyone who has committed a crime. Create a more structured, displined, system for homeless rehabilitation.
The judges around here on the other hand… not sure how to change that, other than constant public exposure of their incredible lax rulings with dangerous felons.
I don’t usually comment, but Burien desperately needs structure and leadership in these hard economic times. Which has to come from its elected officials, city council, and city manager. They should be working for the best interests of the city of Burien and its residents whom elected them.
The cries for help from residents and businesses have been loud and consistent for years. I truly hope the people in charge recognize the obvious patterns right in front of them.
Your environment shapes what manifests in it. Look at Burien today, what we’re seeing on the streets, in the parks, and in the crime statistics is the direct result of long lasting permissive policies, inconsistent enforcement, and a refusal to set clear boundaries for the people. If leadership doesn’t change course and create real order (security inside the communities) things will continue to spiral. Eyes are on you
