EDITOR’S NOTE: This story has been updated to reflect that Jeffery Alan Christiansen, the diver who died during a night dive at Redondo Beach Park, was a resident of Olalla, not Des Moines as previously reported.
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man who died during a scuba diving incident Monday night at Redondo Beach Park as 67-year-old Jeffery Alan Christiansen of Olalla.
As we previously reported, Christiansen was pulled from Puget Sound by fellow divers after suffering a medical emergency during a night dive on Aug. 25.
Sadly, despite CPR efforts by South King Fire & Rescue crews, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other divers were transported to local hospitals for observation after making a rapid ascent while trying to assist him.
The Medical Examiner listed Christiansen’s cause and manner of death as pending. The Des Moines Police Department is the lead investigating agency.
The incident occurred near the 28200 block of Redondo Beach Drive South, a popular diving location along Puget Sound.
Everyone at South King Media extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and diving community of Jeffery Alan Christiansen during this difficult time.
