Families in South King County looking for a faith-based education option are invited to visit St. Bernadette Parish School to meet students and teachers and learn more about its academic and early learning programs.
St. Bernadette Parish School, established in 1960, serves about 200 students in preschool through 8th grade.
The school is licensed by the Department of Early Learning as an Early Childcare Center and is fully accredited through the Western Catholic Educational Association.
According to the school’s mission statement:
“St. Bernadette Parish School teaches Gospel values in a Catholic environment by nurturing academic excellence, fostering diversity, and developing compassionate stewards in our community.”

The school was founded after the Ambaum family donated the land where the church, school and athletic fields now stand. Originally staffed and operated by the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity from Redwood, California, the school is now staffed by lay educators.
St. Bernadette has one class per grade level, a licensed Early Learning Center for students ages 2 ½ – 5, PE and music specialists, librarian and a Title I teacher. In addition to core academic subjects, students participate in physical education, music, library and information skills classes. Each student has access to a Chromebook.
Before and after school activities include drama, choir, art and CYO sports. The school also offers a licensed Extended Day Program providing before and after school child care for preschool through eighth grade students.
The school describes itself as multicultural and hosts traditions and community events throughout the year sponsored by its Parent Club, including a Halloween Carnival, Pho dinner, Italian dinner, Filipino dinner and Bite of Bernadette food festival.

In its diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging statement, the school says it strives to be “an inclusive community for all people” and is committed to supporting students, families, faculty and parish members. The statement notes that the school believes “the more voices included in our school community, the more vibrant and successful our community will be.”
St. Bernadette also includes a land acknowledgment recognizing that it is located on the traditional land of the Coast Salish Tribes.
School wide learning expectations emphasize that students should “Practice Faith, Act Accountably, Work Hard, Stay Safe.”
