Burien City Councilmember Stephanie Mora this weekend conceded her re-election bid to challenger Rocco DeVito, expressing gratitude to supporters and pride in her term of service.
As of Friday’s results, Mora is losing the 2025 general election to DeVito by 1,039 votes/10.95 percent.
“While the election results are clearly disappointing, I’m deeply grateful for all of your support this election season,” Mora said in a Facebook post. “We did our best but Burien has decided to take a different path.”
Mora, who has served on the council for four years, reflected on her time in office and congratulated her opponent.
“It has been my honor to serve you for the past four years and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished during my term,” she said. “Congratulations to my opponent, Rocco DeVito. I hope his voters get the results they are seeking with his election.”
Mora – first elected to the Burien City Council in 2021 – represented Position No. 7 since 2022. DeVito, who ran on a platform focused on housing, safety and community collaboration, will assume that seat when new councilmembers are sworn in January 2026.

I’m sorry to see Stephanie go, she had the spunk and the goodness in her to help the City of Burien. We all can’t think a like, unlike the “winners” that did win, it’s a shame. It may be a win for them, but it will be a loss for the residents, businesses, un-housed and drug addicts and mentally ill. These winners will keep the latter of them exactly as they are because it will just be a pat on their own backs. One thing may come out of this, is that one person may be will be able to take “former” off of his FB page! LOL!!!!!
Stephanie acted in such a professional manner always. If I contacted her, she got right back to me with an answer or help. The Burien residents were wrong on this and they will come to see that. She cared about everyone during her tenure. She probably won’t be calling herself former and gloating online.
GOOD RIDDANCE
