EDITOR’S NOTE: This story has been updated to reflect a correction – the theft occurred at the Burien Fred Meyer, not Safeway as initially reported by Burien Police.

A man who allegedly tried to steal more than $500 worth of meat from the Burien Fred Meyer was arrested recently after a brief foot chase, according to the Burien Police Department.

Deputies responded to a report of a robbery in progress at the grocery store, where the suspect was attempting to flee with high-value cuts of meat.

“After a brief chase (fueled by questionable life choices, not protein) deputies caught up and safely took the suspect into custody,” Burien Police said in a statement. “That’s right—this individual tried to beef with the law over some prime cuts.”

Police said that all of the stolen meat was recovered, though deputies noted they could not confirm whether the products remained suitable for resale or consumption.

Burien PD added more tongue-in-cheek commentary in its public release, writing:

“If you’re planning to commit a felony over filet mignon… you’re probably making a rare mistake.”

No injuries were reported in the incident.

The suspect’s identity has not been released, and charges are pending.
