A routine traffic stop in Burien led to the arrest of a passenger with an outstanding felony warrant after the individual fled on foot and was taken into custody, according to the Burien Police Department.
The stop occurred at the intersection of Des Moines Memorial Drive South and South 128th Street, where a deputy observed multiple traffic violations, including expired registration, no license plate light and failure to signal.
Police said the vehicle had two passengers who were also in violation for not wearing seatbelts. During the stop, the deputy requested identification from all occupants.
One passenger provided a name that did not match Department of Licensing records and was later determined to be false, police said.
When asked to step out of the vehicle, the passenger fled on foot. After a short pursuit, the individual fell and was safely taken into custody by the deputy, according to police.
Further investigation revealed the suspect had provided a false identity to avoid arrest due to an outstanding felony warrant for displaying a weapon, with bail set at $20,000.
The individual was transported and booked into jail without further incident.
Burien Police offered the following safety reminders:
- Wear your seatbelt – it’s the law, and it saves lives.
- Always carry valid identification and provide accurate information to law enforcement.
- Comply with lawful orders during traffic stops to help ensure everyone’s safety.
