Two drivers were tragically killed on Sunday night, April 12 in a wrong-way head-on collision on SR 509 just north of South 112th Street (map below), according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).
The crash happened at 9:43 p.m. on April 12 and blocked the roadway for five hours and 35 minutes, the State Patrol said.
According to the WSP, a wrong-way vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of SR 509 collided head-on with a southbound vehicle in lane two of three. The northbound vehicle came to rest in lane two, while the southbound vehicle came to rest in a ditch on the right shoulder.
The victims of the tragic collision were identified by the State Patrol as a 21-year-old man from Kent and a 71-year-old man from Seattle. Both were drivers, both died at the scene, and both were wearing seat belts, according to the report.
The State Patrol said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Drugs or alcohol involvement was listed as unknown.
