A driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run after deputies responded to a collision late Wednesday night, Jan. 21, 2026 near South 156th Street and 1st Ave South (map below), according to the Burien Police Department.
Deputies were dispatched about 10 p.m. on Jan. 21 after a victim reported being rear ended by another vehicle.
Police said the driver fled the scene on foot and left the vehicle behind, with both the victim and witnesses reporting they saw the driver running away.
A short time later, deputies received information that the driver might be hiding in a parking lot south of the collision. Multiple deputies searched the area and located a suspect who was hiding, police said.
When deputies contacted the suspect, they observed signs of impairment. The victim was brought to the location and positively identified the detainee as the driver involved in the collision.
Deputies conducted field sobriety tests and arrested the driver for DUI and hit and run, police said.
The driver was transported to jail, and charges were filed with the Prosecutor’s Office.
