As temperatures are expected to drop later this week, the Burien Severe Weather Shelter is calling on Volunteers to help set up its facilities on Thursday, Jan. 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The shelter – located inside Highline United Methodist Church (map below) – provides a vital resource for individuals seeking warmth and safety during extreme cold weather.

Organizers are urging community members to lend a hand to ensure the shelter is ready to open its doors.

The National Weather Service is predicting a low around 29 degrees this coming Saturday night, Jan. 18.

“The forecast looks cold – can you help us get ready to open?” organizers said in a statement.

Volunteers will assist with arranging sleeping areas, preparing supplies, and organizing the space to accommodate guests.

Those interested in helping are encouraged to RSVP by emailing shelter.highlineumc@gmail.com, plan to arrive at the shelter between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and dress appropriately for physical tasks.

The shelter emphasizes the critical role of volunteers in its operations and thanked the community in advance for their support.
