Crews have restored power from a Wednesday morning (April 8, 2020) outage that affected more than 6,000 Seattle City Light customers near Burien and Normandy Park.

The outage hit around 10:25 a.m., and City Light’s map showed the affected area stretching from Normandy Park/Three Tree Point through Lake Burien, Gregory Heights, downtown and up through Boulevard Park to near Tukwila.

City Light Spokesperson Tony White told The B-Town Blog that the outage occurred when an underground cable failed due to some sort of damage, “but exactly what caused the damage is still unknown.”

“When the underground cable failed, it tripped a fuse cutout which then went on to lock out an entire feeder,” he said. “Through the step restoration process, crews were able to isolate the problem quickly. We restored power to 2,000 of the 6,000 affected about an hour after the initial outage, and to another 3,500 within two hours of the initial outage. We expect most of the remaining 500 customers to have power back around 3 p.m. (or earlier, hopefully).”
