Photos courtesy Aaron Wells Sylvester Middle School was put into lockdown Monday morning (March 12), after students reported seeing another student with a gun at the school. The incident started at around 10:30 a.m., when students witnessed a student in class with a gun on his person, then immediately reported it to the principal. No threats were made to any students or the school, and the campus was immediately placed into lockdown. King County Sheriff’s Office (which contracts with Burien Police) responded within minutes. The suspect – a 15-year old male – was placed under arrest and a handgun was located a short time later hidden in the classroom. The King County Sheriff’s Office added:

This is a perfect use of the term, “if you see something, say something.” The students reported the incident immediately, the school acted quickly and placed the school in immediate lockdown, so that Police and School Security could respond and investigate further.
The suspect was booked into the Youth Service Center in Seattle. The school was put into lockdown and Police and School Security responded. No other students are believed to be involved, and the lockdown was lifted. Ironically, this incident happened two days before a walkout protesting gun safety in schools will take place.
