One person suffered life-threatening injuries after a shooting near Evergreen High School in White Center on Monday afternoon, March 11, 2024.

King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) deputies responded to reports of gunfire around 2:30 p.m. in the area of SW 114th Street and 10th Ave SW.

Crews from King County Fire District No. 2 arrived on scene and located a victim with gunshot wound(s) to his back. They moved the injured person to a safe location for treatment before transport to a hospital.

Authorities confirmed the incident did not occur on Evergreen High School grounds. However, as a precaution, Evergreen High School, Cascade Middle School, and Mount View Elementary were placed on lockdown. All lockdowns have since been lifted.

KCSO Deputies, along with K9 and Guardian 1 searched for the suspect(s), but none were located after an intense search.

Currently KCSO Major Crimes is investigating the shooting and what led up to it.

The investigation caused dismissal delays at nearby schools, resulting in late afternoon bus routes. A large perimeter was cordoned off by law enforcement for several hours as they processed the scene.

The injured individual previously attended Evergreen High School and is no longer enrolled, Highline Public Schools told us.
