A Safe Firearm Storage Giveaway Event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Outdoor Emporium in Seattle (1701 4th Ave. South, Seattle 98134):
To encourage safe firearm storage, Seattle Children’s, Virginia Mason and other community partners are giving away FREE lock boxes and trigger locks.
Come learn about the importance and effectiveness of safe firearm storage, especially for homes with children and teens:
- You’ll receive hands-on training on how to use a lock box and trigger lock.
- No ID required.
- Supplies are limited. First come, first served.
- You must be 18 and older and present to receive item.
- One item per person, 2 items per household.
- Lines have formed at previous events so you may want to consider coming early and be prepared to wait in line.

Thank you to the B Town Blog for providing the community with this important opportunity for making our families safer. Growing up in eastern Washington, I spent hundreds of hours hunting. As a result, I have firearms. For our entire life as parents, we made sure that our firearms were secure from access by children, but accessible if our family was threatened. When ever our children wanted to visit the home of a new friend, I would call the parents and explain that I do not care if they owned firearms, I just wanted to make sure that children did not have access to them. It always amazed me how many parents said that they had never been asked for this information before. Responsible gun ownership requires that our firearms are controlled and not accessible to children. Period. There is no negotiation on this issue. Our children deserve our emphasis on protecting them from fire arm tragedies. If you have firearms and children in your home, your firearms must be secure and locked.
