The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit handed down a decision this week in Burien’s favor, the Quiet Skies Coalition announced on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019.

The court granted the petition by the City of Burien, and has directed the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to “go back to the drawing board and consider the potential cumulative impact of future operations like the Burien Turn.”

“This is by no means the end of our fight (in fact in many ways it’s only the beginning) but this decision is a huge step forward, and it puts the FAA on notice that those who are most affected by the relentless expansion of airport operations across the county will not idly stand by and do nothing,” Larry Cripe, President of the Quiet Skies Coalition said.

“We’re still wrapping our heads around the Court’s decision and trying to understand its impact, but I wanted to at least let you know that our hard work is paying off and that our voices are being heard,” Cripe added. “We plan to release a more thorough update next week. Until then, enjoy the rest of your holiday!”
