Burien Police / King County Sheriff’s Office are reporting that a recent check forger suspect recently left behind some crucial evidence:
If you try to commit a crime and leave evidence behind, it’s probably not a good idea to attempt to retrieve it.
Police say that on Dec. 10, 2020 Burien deputies were called to a bank in the 200 block of SW 152 Street in Burien (map below).
The bank called 911 after a male attempted to cash a forged check. When his check was refused, the male exited the bank, leaving behind both the forged check and his identification.
When patrol responded, a check of the surrounding area did not find the suspect.
The next morning at 10:36 a.m., the same bank called 911 again to say the same suspect returned and was asking for his ID back. Deputies contacted the male and asked if he wanted to return to the bank to work out the issue with the ID. The male agreed.
The bank manager provided deputies the signed/altered check matching the name of the identification that was confiscated. The suspect had even put his thumb print on the check.
The suspect was placed under arrest in the lobby of the bank. After being read his rights, the suspect admitted he presented the check and gave a story that he worked for the check issuer, however he continued to change his story. He finally told deputies that he was given the check by someone he knows who uses a knife to cut and alter checks.
Charges of Forgery have been forwarded to the Burien Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
