The Oilerie Burien announced on Monday, Jan. 4, 2021 that it is closing, and will shut its doors for good by the end of February.

The specialty retail store offered samples and sales of gourmet Italian olive oils, balsamic vinegars, spices, dips, pastas, and other cooking and baking accoutrements. It was part of a franchise of stores dedicated to gourmet oils and cooking.

Closing down the store – located at 540 SW 152nd Street in the Burien Town Square retail complex – was a combination of economics and personal reasons, Owner Marty Hughes told The B-Town Blog.

Despite 2020 sales actually being better for them than 2019, the business still wasn’t economically viable.

“On the personal side of things, we wanted to be able to watch our grandkids grow up, and with our lease expiring this year, we made the decision to close up and move down to Texas to be closer to them,” Marty added. “It has been a pleasure being part of the Burien business community, and I will miss all the connections I’ve made over the past several years.”

Hughes added that they had a good Christmas run, but are currently out of Fior Fiore, Truffle and Primaiolo oils.

“We have one last shipment scheduled to arrive toward the end of this week or the beginning of next week which will replenish all of our out of stock items. I will post here when the shipment has arrived and is available for sale.”
