Burien Police/King County Sheriff’s Office say a Thursday night incident in Boulevard Park in Burien that sparked social media claims of a fatal shooting did not involve a real firearm and resulted in no confirmed deaths.

Deputies with the King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), who contract with the city of Burien for police services, responded just before 9 p.m. Thursday night, April 23 to a reported assault near South 120th Street and Des Moines Memorial Drive South (map below).

KCSO told The B-Town Blog that the incident involved a confrontation in which a gun was displayed, but deputies later determined the weapon was fake.

Authorities said the victim fled the scene in a vehicle and subsequently crashed, but refused medical aid and declined to cooperate with investigators. The suspect also left the area.

No arrests have been made.

The clarification comes after widely shared online posts incorrectly claimed that someone had been shot and killed in the parking lot of a nearby Dollar Tree store in Boulevard Park.

Officials have not released additional details about those involved.
