A large police search involving deputies, a K9 unit and the King County Sheriff’s Office Guardian One helicopter unfolded in Burien on Thursday, May 7, after a suspect reportedly fled from deputies responding to a warrant pickup call at Burien CARES.
According to the King County Sheriff’s Office, a Burien Police deputy was dispatched around 10:30 a.m. to Burien CARES after a caller reported that a person in the lobby had multiple outstanding warrants.
Authorities said the suspect ran from the building after seeing the deputy arrive.
Deputies and assisting officers searched the area for several hours as reports came in of the suspect running through neighborhoods and wooded areas near SW 112th Street, 26th Ave SW and 28th Ave SW in the Shorewood neighborhood.
At one point during the search, Seahurst Elementary School was placed into secure status, Highline Public Schools confirmed.
KCSO’s Guardian One helicopter also assisted in the search from the air.
One resident described the large police presence to The B Town Blog.
“There are around 25 Police & Sheriff cars with red & blue lights flashing along the street in my neighborhood which is Shorewood,” the reader said. “They’re parked alongside the roads 26th and 28th Ave SW and along SW 112th St between 26th and 28th Ave SW.”
Authorities said the suspect was not located.
Charges of obstructing an officer were forwarded to the Burien Prosecutor’s Office, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The good thing: local police was called. Not immigration law enforcement.
And 25 police cars were available.
How did a Burien CARES employee know the person has warrants? That seems odd.. It seems like something isn’t being told in full or truthfully.
