Registration is open for A Sea of Baby Orcas – A FREE storytelling, art engagement, and Southern Resident Killer Whale conservation education event on Friday, Aug. 28, for children to elders.
Thie event will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Environmental Science Center building at Seahurst Park in Burien (map below), for the third of three FREE standalone public events this August.
“At the Burien event, we begin inside to hear the story of Tahlequah J35 and her calf J61, lovingly called Aldebaran or ‘Bara’ for short after the bright orange star of winter, narrated by Deborah Horne, award-winning longtime KIRO 7 reporter,” organizers said.
Guests can paint a FREE eco-friendly fabric baby orca stuffie to take home, and add paper baby orca cutouts to the mobile community art board creating a growing sea of baby orcas.
As low tide occurs, you will move outside to the beach for a short environmental presentation, a beach walk, hear a conservation education message, and meet FieldLab founder and handler Julianne Ubigau and Jasper, environmental scent detection dog.
Photo ops: A morning of joy and hope you don’t want to miss. Brought to you by local storyteller and artist Julie Seitz and the Environmental Science Center.
Registration is required, as supplies are limited. Once the event reaches capacity, additional registrations will be placed on a waitlist. Everyone who registers and attends is guaranteed a FREE eco-friendly fabric baby orca stuffie!
This Burien event is FREE with funding and support from the City of Burien Arts Commission, our community partners Environmental Science Center (4Culture Public Access Grant Recipient in Burien), KAVU, and Natural Earth Paint, and our sponsors Seahurst Cabinetry and Design and Burien Bark, along with various businesses, organizations, and individuals.
