A man faces assault and unlawful firearm possession charges after allegedly pointing a handgun at an undercover detective driving on SR 509 near S. 160th Street, according to the Burien Police Department and King County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred Aug. 20 when the detective said someone pulled alongside his car and pointed a handgun at his face. The detective followed the suspect toward Ambaum Blvd. SW, where patrol deputies were waiting.
Deputies conducted a high-risk stop and issued commands several times before taking the suspect into custody (see video below). A search of the vehicle found three handguns, cocaine and a methamphetamine pipe, police said.
Police said the suspect has previous domestic violence convictions, which prohibit him from legally possessing a firearm.
“Here’s a tip,” police said in a statement, “never point a gun at anybody. It might just be a police officer.”
The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged the suspect with second degree assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.
