The City of Burien announced on Aug. 1, 2023 that it is now accepting applications for seven open positions on the Burien Planning Commission, which lost 11 members after its then-Chair Charles Schaefer was ousted by the Burien City Council in June.

The purpose of the Planning Commission is “to provide guidance and direction to the Burien City Council on Burien’s future growth through review, analysis, and recommendations for the Comprehensive Plan and related land use documents,” the city said.

The Planning Commission is comprised of seven members and one alternate (David Gould, the only one who did not resign), and commissioners volunteer their time to help plan the future of the city.
