School was cancelled at St. Bernadette School in Burien on Thursday, Oct. 17, due to an arson fire on the north side of the primary building in the middle of the night.

Classes were cancelled for Preschool, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten through 3rd grade.

Fire damaged a door, and there was smoke damage to the interior of the building.

“The investigation is ongoing to determine the cause,” Burien/Normandy Park Fire Chief Mike Marrs told The B-Town Blog.

No word yet on estimated damages, or when the school will re-open.

“People are asking how to help,” school representatives said in a Facebook post. “At this point, we ask for prayers. Pray we can get things cleaned up and welcome students back very soon. Pray this does not happen to others. Pray for the arsonist/s that they get the help they need and do not hurt others.”
