On the 4th of July, when the City of Des Moines celebrates the USA’s 250th birthday (it doesn’t look a day older than 175!), BAT Theatre will be there reading the Declaration of Independence.

The reading is scheduled for 1 p.m. as part of the free community event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The City of Des Moines’ annual Stars, Stripes & Sunshine event at Des Moines Marina and Beach Park, 22307 Dock Ave S in Des Moines (map below), runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 4.

Des Moines’ free community celebration features live music, a farmers market, food trucks, and a variety of activities for all ages.

Join BAT for some revolutionary words that changed the world.

“In 1776, the Declaration of Independence asserted the then-radical concepts that all individuals possess inherent human rights, that a government’s legitimacy requires the active consent of the governed, and that citizens have the ultimate authority to overthrow tyranny,” BAT said.

Head to Des Moines and celebrate what caused the Founders to declare:

“And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.”
