For the second consecutive year, Burien Actors Theatre (BAT) has been voted one of five finalists for the prestigious “People’s Choice” at the Gregory Awards, a significant honor recognizing outstanding theater in the Puget Sound region.
The People’s Choice Award is determined by votes from members of the theater community, underscoring the high regard BAT holds among its peers.
Joining BAT as nominees for the People’s Choice Award are Center Stage, Harlequin Productions, Tacoma Arts Live, and Tacoma Little Theatre.
The Gregory Awards, named after Seattle theater critic Gregory A. Falls, celebrate excellence in theater across the region and are considered one of the top honors for local theater companies.
“The people have spoken,” said Eric Dickman, Artistic Director of BAT. “This is an honor, as members of the theater community in the Puget Sound Region voted to make BAT a nominee.”
BAT has a longstanding tradition of producing high-quality, innovative performances, bringing a mix of classic and contemporary plays to the South King County are. The theater is known not only for its artistic excellence but also for its commitment to fostering a sense of community through the arts.
The People’s Choice Award at the Gregory Awards is one of the most coveted, as it reflects the support and admiration of peers in the theater industry. The final winner will be announced during the Gregory Awards ceremony, which recognizes excellence in a variety of categories, including acting, directing, and production.
The Gregory Awards began in 1998 as the Gregory A. Falls Sustained Achievement Award. Over the following 11 years, it honored individuals who spent much of their careers strengthening theatre in our region. In 2009, while continuing this tradition, organizers also added six annual categories and incorporated the Falls award into the first Gregory Awards, which were presented at a gala event on October 19, 2009 at the Intiman Theatre.
