Burien Actors Theatre’s (BAT) Shelter-In-Place Season continues this weekend with a performance reading of Zombie, written by Bill Connington.

Bill, a New York actor and theater lecturer at Yale University, will be reading Zombie, a one-person show, live from New York.

Performances are this Saturday, May 30 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 31 at 2 p.m.

BAT is halfway through its first-ever Shelter-In-Place Season, which includes five plays read online by very talented actors under the guidance of equally talented directors (read our previous review here).

These plays are the Artistic Director’s choice with little supervision. Zombie is a favorite of BAT’s Artistic Director, Eric Dickman.

“It does what theater does the very best by immersing you into worlds you would otherwise never experience,” Eric said.

BAT’s Shelter-in-place Season is a fundraiser. BAT understands funds are tight for some. So donate any amount, no matter how large or small, and get a link to see the Zoom reading. Plus, for Zombie all donations up to $1,000 will be matched.

Donations to the season help BAT, the creative team, and Click-4-Tix, BAT’s online ticket seller, as they both face hard times. They also pay for show costs.

, by Bill Connington, is based on Joyce Carol Oates’ novella of the same name. In this one-person show, we enter the mind of Quentin P__, a sexual psychopath and killer. Zombie is not a play about madness but is the voice and the logic of madness itself. The terror is not that Quentin P__ is so strange to us, but that he is so fearfully familiar.

You will not be able to look away.

The intense one-act, Zombie, won the 2008 FringeNYC Overall Excellence Award for Outstanding Solo Show – here’s a trailer from that performance:

When BAT produced Zombie in 2010, an audience member wrote:

“Finally, I came to understand why you’d want to put on this show; and I can certainly see why any actor worth his salt would kill to perform it: it’s a tour de force. My initial reaction had been mostly caught up in a knee-jerk reflex: My God, Burien can’t do a show like this! Which, of course, is precisely why Burien should do a show like this.”

Please note the script contains adult language and situations. This show is not suitable for those under the age of 16.
