Burien Mayor Jimmy Matta releases statement on local effects of COVID-19 coronavirus

On Sunday, Mar. 15, 2020, Burien Mayor Jimmy Matta released a statement about the local effects the COVID-19 coronavirus is having on our community.

“Right now more than ever it is vital that we unite as a community, checking on your neighbors, and ensuring to socially distance oneself for regard to the people that are most susceptible to this virus,” Matta said. “The impact is weighing heavily on our small businesses that depend on our community for their survival, with a mind to the social distancing, please help wherever you can even if that means ordering take out or buying gift cards for future use.”

Friends and Family,

I give with heavy heart condolences to everyone being impacted by the COVID-19 virus- from school closures to small businesses.

Right now more than ever it is vital that we unite as a community, checking on your neighbors, and ensuring to socially distance oneself for regard to the people that are most susceptible to this virus.

The impact is weighing heavily on our small businesses that depend on our community for their survival, with a mind to the social distancing, please help wherever you can even if that means ordering take out or buying gift cards for future use.

For our elderly population, please ensure if you can, that you check up on those you know, and ensure they have the basic needs necessary to stay in their homes.

The Burien City Council will be meeting on Monday at 7 p.m. to discuss what further actions we must take.

This is undeniably a difficult time for everyone, and it will take us all to combat this. These are times that we unveil the strong and supportive community we have.
