A person was hospitalized after being shot in the arm with what police believe was a pellet gun at Dottie Harper Park in Burien on Sunday afternoon, Mar. 15, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.
Burien Police deputies were dispatched to the park just before 12:30 p.m. Sunday after receiving reports of a shooting.
When deputies arrived, they located a person who had been shot in the arm. Authorities said the injury appeared to have been caused by a pellet gun.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that this incident resulted in a large police presence, with at least eight cruisers and a King County Fire District #2 medic truck responding.
Medics treated the victim at the scene before transporting them to Valley Hospital for further treatment.
Deputies established a perimeter around the abandoned, burned-out “Blue House” in the park where the suspected shooter was believed to be located.
Police said the suspect later came out of the house and was taken into custody.
The suspect was arrested on investigation of assault in the second degree and booked into the King County Jail.
This case remains under investigation, and charges will be forwarded.
“We remind the community that pellet guns, while often perceived as less dangerous, can still cause serious injury,” police said in a statement. “Please handle all weapons responsibly and report suspicious behavior immediately.”
