With cold temperatures continuing, the Burien Severe Weather Shelter will remain open through this coming weekend to provide warmth and safety for those in need.
As operations extend at Highline United Methodist Church, more volunteers and donated supplies are urgently needed.
Shelter organizers are monitoring weather forecasts to determine if services will continue into next week and will update the volunteer signup accordingly.
How to Volunteer or Donate
Those interested in volunteering or donating can check for updates and supply needs here as meal menus are finalized, or send an email to shelter.highlineumc@gmail.com.
Organizers also encourage the public to spread the word by sharing posts on Facebook and informing friends and neighbors about the shelter’s continued need for support.
“We appreciate all of your help so much! We could not do this without your support!” organizers said.
I’m sure some will say “they needed a way to the shelter to get out of the cold” 🤦🏻♀️
FYI…The morning of February 5, 2025, around 7:00 a.m. at least five police vehicles were called to the Highline United Methodist Church, which serves as Burien’s cold weather shelter, located at 13015 1st Ave S. in Burien, Washington.
According to the King County Sheriff’s Office, this was a recovery of a stolen vehicle, stolen out of Seattle. PD Case #25-32769.
One person was arrested and taken to the King County Jail. Charges recommended were “possession of a stolen motor vehicle.” It was sent to the prosecutor’s office.
Well it sucks that some homeless person committed a crime but at least the police caught the criminal now hopefully the church also trespassed the person .
