Beginning today – Tuesday, June 2, 2020 – Highline Medical Center in Burien will be renamed St. Anne Hospital.

The name change will not impact any of the hospital services that CHI Franciscan provides.

“St. Anne means grace,” CHI said in a statement. “She is the patron saint of mothers, grandmothers, women in labor, and the educators. As the mother of Mary, St. Anne symbolizes motherly protection and is a protector from storms.”

Updates to signage and other materials will occur gradually over the coming weeks and months.

First opened as Burien General Hospital in 1958, then Highline Hospital, it was renamed Highline Medical Center in 2005. In 2013 it was bought by CHI Franciscan.

“By adopting Saint in our hospital names, we will enhance clarity and recognition of facilities within the CHI Franciscan family throughout the region, underscoring we operate as one cohesive system,” CHI added.

“More than 60 years ago, Burien celebrated the opening of the first and only hospital in the community, which to this day continues to be an essential partner by providing high-quality care and serving those in need,” said Cary Evans, Vice President for Communications and Government Affairs, CHI Franciscan. “That tradition of healing continues as we care and proudly serve the diverse south King County community in the midst of this pandemic. We salute the dedicated caregivers – both past and present – as we honor St. Anne, patron saint to mothers, grandmothers and women in labor, symbolizing motherly protection and a protector from storms. St. Anne Hospital, as part of CHI Franciscan’s system of 10 hospitals and 230 specialty clinics, will continue to be a beacon of healing and grace to all who need it.”
