The City of Burien is calling on local and regional artists to apply for its 2026 Gallery Program, which offers opportunities to exhibit work in one of three community spaces.

Applications are due by Aug. 22, 2025, and selected artists will receive a stipend and exhibit their artwork for two to four months in public locations throughout the city.

“This is a great opportunity to showcase your art in a vibrant community setting,” the city announced in its official call for artists.

Three exhibition sites are available:

  • Burien Community Center Lobby (14700 6th Ave SW): 2D artwork only, two-month exhibit, $50 artist stipend.
  • The Maverick Apartments Window (150th & 6th Ave SW): 2D or 3D work, four-month exhibit, $250 stipend.
  • Merrill Gardens Senior Living Windows (4th & 150th SW): 2D or 3D work, four-month exhibit, $250 stipend.

Artists may submit proposals for one or more locations, and all exhibits are expected to be accessible and community-friendly.

The program is presented in partnership with The Maverick and Merrill Gardens.

Artwork from past programs has included paintings, photography, mixed media, and sculpture.

An example featured in this year’s promotional material is a watercolor piece by artist Arella Swanberg, as seen in the flier below:
