The City of Burien on Thursday, April 13, 2023 announced that it is now accepting proposals to lease ±24,500 of city-owned property on the northwest corner of SW 152nd Street and 6th Ave SW in downtown Burien.

This lot – located just east of the building that houses Town Square Dentistry – is currently occupied by a homeless encampment of 15 or so tents, and this is a first move that would allow the city to remove campers once the property is leased.

The idea to put the city-owned lot up for lease was proposed at Monday night’s (April 10, 2023) Burien City Council meeting by Jimmy Matta, and passed by a 4-3 vote.

“Burien intends to select a qualified applicant to lease the property for a use that: 1. Maintains the site while pursuing property development opportunities, and/or; 2. Provides benefits to the community, perhaps by a public use,” the announcement says. “Burien may begin negotiations for lease of the property with any qualified applicant at its sole discretion.”

The city has assigned a deadline for proposals from applicants of May 1, 2023.

LEASE OF CITY-OWNED PROPERTY

The City of Burien is accepting proposals to lease a ±24,500 sf city-owned property on the northwest corner of SW 152nd St and 6th Ave SW in downtown Burien. Experience with public/private partnerships is preferred.

Burien intends to select a qualified applicant to lease the property for a use that:

1. Maintains the site while pursuing property development opportunities, and/or;

2. Provides benefits to the community, perhaps by a public use.

Submission Instructions

Burien asks interested parties to submit a letter of interest outlining their proposal for use of the site to economicdevelopment@burienwa.gov by May 1, 2023 for consideration. 

Terms and Conditions

Burien may begin negotiations for lease of the property with any qualified applicant at its sole discretion. If, at any time, negotiations with any selected party are not proceeding to the satisfaction of Burien, Burien may, in its sole judgement, terminate the discussions and select another party with whom to conduct negotiations.
