The City of Burien this week launched a new online and mobile reporting app that allows residents to notify the city about potholes, graffiti, downed signs, litter and other non-emergency problems directly from a phone or computer.

Called “Fix It Burien,” the tool lets users submit locations, photos and details to help city staff respond more efficiently. Participants can create an optional account to receive updates and track the status of their requests, according to the city.

The app is intended for non emergency concerns. Officials emphasized that emergencies or crimes in progress should still be reported by calling 911.

According to the city’s announcement:

“Report an issue. Get it fixed. Notify the City of Burien about non-emergency issues like potholes, vegetation issues, downed signs, graffiti, litter, and more right from your computer or mobile device. Share locations, photos, and details to ensure the most efficient solution. Create an optional account to receive updates and track progress. Always report emergencies or crimes in progress by calling 911.”

Non emergency police matters are handled through the Burien Police Department and the King County Sheriff’s Office. Examples include abandoned vehicles, lost property, theft, traffic complaints, vandalism and vehicle prowls. The non emergency line is (206) 296-3311, and online reporting is available through the sheriff’s office system.

The city also provided guidance for other types of infrastructure problems. Downed power lines should be treated as emergencies and reported by calling 911. Power outages can be reported to Puget Sound Energy at 1-888-225-5773 or Seattle City Light at (206) 684-3000.

Drinking water concerns should be directed to the appropriate provider, including Highline Water District, several King County water districts or Seattle Public Utilities. Sewer issues should be reported to the relevant sewer district, including Midway, Southwest Suburban or Valley View.

Residents can also submit aviation noise complaints through the Federal Aviation Administration website.

People who prefer to report issues by phone can contact Burien City Hall between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, at (206) 241-4647.

The city noted that complaints are subject to disclosure under the Public Records Act and anonymity is not guaranteed.
