The City of Burien is seeking applicants for nine open positions on three advisory bodies that help shape local laws, policies and long term planning, the city announced Monday.
“Want to serve your community and help shape local laws and policy?” the city said in a statement. “Do you have expertise to share? Consider applying for one of the nine open positions on a Burien advisory board, commission, or committee!”
Residents interested in serving on the Burien Airport Committee, Human Services Commission, or Planning Commission have until Jan. 16, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. to submit an application.
Interviews will be held during City Council meetings in February and March.
According to the city, members of Burien’s advisory boards and commissions study issues affecting the community, review staff reports, gather public testimony and forward recommendations to the City Council for consideration.
All positions are volunteer roles.
The Burien Airport Committee advises the City Council on airport related issues, including land use, mitigation, and impacts on residents and businesses. The committee has one opening, a three year term.
The Human Services Commission evaluates human services needs, reviews funding requests and monitors the performance of agencies receiving city support. The commission has four openings. Three are four year terms and one is a one year term.
The Planning Commission provides guidance on Burien’s future growth, including updates to the Comprehensive Plan, community based planning, land use codes and regulations related to housing, the urban forest and neighborhood development. The commission has four openings, each for a four year term.
