The City of Burien is asking residents to share their priorities for stormwater improvements by this Sunday, Nov. 1 as the city develops a plan to improve water quality and support fish and wildlife in Lake Burien and two local creeks.

The Stormwater Management Action Plan will identify ways to reduce the impacts of stormwater runoff in:

  • Lake Burien
  • Lake Burien Creek
  • Miller Creek

The plan focuses on the area that drains to Lake Burien Creek. According to the city, that area stretches from Seahurst Elementary School to Sylvester Middle School and from just west of Lake Burien to a few blocks east of Ambaum Boulevard South.

The final Downtown Tributary SMAP (PDF) from 2023 is also available for review.

The city is seeking residents’ priorities as it develops the plan and identifies actions to address runoff and improve conditions for fish and wildlife.

“Now, we are following up the 2023 plan with a new SMAP for the Lake Burien Creek area, and we are looking for community input,” the city said in a statement.
