Cyndi Upthegrove at a Highline Historical Society meeting in Dec., 2018.

On Tuesday, Jan. 22, Cyndi Upthgegrove announced that she has resigned her position as Managing Trustee of the Highline Historical Society.
Cyndi had been serving in this job for 16 years, since Oct., 2003.
Longtime Curator of Collections Nancy Salguero McKay (pictured, right) was elected unanimously as the new Executive Director, and will take over Upthegrove’s position.
“I am thrilled at the prospect of the excellence she (Nancy) will bring to the Society and the new museum,” Cyndi said. “I am remaining on the Board of Trustees for the foreseeable future and look forward to simply attending board meetings and museum programs. Time to move on to other fun things.”
An opening date for the new Highline Heritage Museum – located on the corner of SW 152nd and Ambaum Blvd. SW – has not yet been announced, but we’re all hoping it’s very soon.
Here’s a video update on the progress of the new museum, as presented by Cyndi on Dec. 1, 2018 (running time 27:31):

The Highline Historical Society was founded in 1994 as the Burien Heritage Society. The Society soon merged with the Friends of the Highline School District and acquired their large collections relating to the history of the school district. Later acquisitions of the archives of The Highline Times and thousands of articles of local community history have made founding a regional heritage museum imperative. The name was changed to “Highline Historical Society” to reflect the region the collections represent.
The Society owns several hundred thousand 3-dimensional objects, photos, slides, films, and documents. Until the museum opens, the collections are in storage in the former Seattle Christian School on Port of Seattle property in SeaTac. Highline is the largest area in the State of Washington without a local history museum. A great deal of board and volunteer time is being spent developing and funding the upcoming Highline Heritage Museum. People wishing access to the collections for research purposes before the museum is open may contact the Society to make an appointment by email at: [email protected].
And yes, you too can volunteer or donate to this new museum here:

Everyone at South King Media sends their best wishes to Cyndi,
and we look forward to working with Nancy!
