At approximately 6:55 p.m. on Dec. 1, 2023, Washington State Patrol (WSP) communications received a call from Burien Police that they were at the scene of an individual found deceased under the S. 146th Street overpass of SR 509 (map below).

Troopers said that the on-scene investigation showed that the victim, identified as Robert Thomas with a last known address in Tacoma, had died of stab wounds.

Over the next several weeks, WSP detectives worked investigating leads, and on Jan. 11, 2024, after developing probable cause, Nathaniel Scott, 32, was arrested and booked into the King County Jail for investigation of Murder 2nd degree.

The King County Prosecutor’s Office formally filed charges the week of Jan. 15, 2024.
