“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” will bring a screening and a night of live variety acts, costumes and audience participation to the Des Moines Theater at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, and Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026.
The theater and Dave Hinshaw, known as Mary Cockins of Haus of Mary Opal, will host the screenings in partnership with GPSBA and Waterland Pride.
This inaugural night brings a full lineup of local performers and vendors, tasty bites and treats, delicious cocktails, and an experience you won’t forget.
Come in costume, or pick up a prop bag at the door — proceeds benefit Waterland Pride — and expect the full audience participation experience — call-backs, confetti, and all. This is a 21+ event.

“The team is so excited to share this event with everyone in Des Moines and our surrounding communities. RHPS is a cult-classic and we aim to share the queer joy it brings to our local communities. We can’t control everything happening around us every day — but for two nights we can share something incredibly special and amazing that has stood the test of time,” said Dave Hinshaw (Mary Cockins).
Tickets are on sale now at GPSBA.org. Both nights are expected to sell out — early booking is recommended.
