A Seattle man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Friday evening, Jan 3, 2025, after losing control of his SUV while traveling at a high rate of speed on I-405 near the I-5 HOV bypass in Tukwila, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

The accident occurred at approximately 6:06 p.m. when the 40-year-old male driver failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle left the roadway, striking a metal sign and a concrete barrier before coming to rest on the right-hand shoulder.

Sadly, emergency responders pronounced the driver dead at the scene.

The crash blocked the roadway for over three hours as investigators worked to determine the cause. Preliminary findings from WSP indicate that speed was a contributing factor.

It is currently unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved.

The driver was reportedly wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

The vehicle was totaled and removed from the scene.
