The latest election results for Burien’s Initiative 1 show the measure continuing to gain support, now with 56.81% of voters (4,377 votes) in favor and 43.19% (3,327 votes) opposed, according to the Feb. 14, 2025 update from King County Elections.
As of this count, 7,712 ballots have been processed, bringing voter turnout to 25.58% of Burien’s 30,146 registered voters. This marks an increase in support from previous updates, where Initiative 1 had been leading with 55.55% in the last tally.
The measure requires a simple majority to win, which looks like a done deal given the latest numbers.
If passed, Initiative 1 would align Burien’s minimum wage with Tukwila’s $21.10 per hour rate, with phased increases for smaller businesses. The measure also includes provisions requiring employers to offer additional work hours to existing part-time employees before hiring new staff.

I can’t believe voter turn out is such low numbers, especially with what is going on in America with government going down the tube, shame on you non voters.
All they had to do was fill in a bubble and put it in the envelope. Crazy.
Yeah and registering to vote putting up with your address and phone number being released to the public and then copy and pasted and sold to telemarketing list’s . Then all the lovely non recyclable flyers and ad’s . Then finding what you voted for failed because the other side toss a bunch of money at it .
