With the arrival of summer 2025, the Environmental Science Center (ESC) in Burien has launched a new Beach Naturalist program at Seahurst Park, offering hands-on, educational experiences during the season’s lowest tides.

Staff and volunteers from ESC will be stationed on the beach during select low tide events to help visitors of all ages learn about the diverse marine life living along the shoreline.

Participants will have the chance to explore tide pools, ask questions, and receive guidance on how to observe local organisms without harming the fragile ecosystem.

“This is a great opportunity to connect with our community and share knowledge about the amazing marine life right here in Burien,” said program organizers. “We’re here to answer questions, show off cool organisms, and help people learn how to keep the beach safe for future generations.”

The Beach Naturalist program is free and open to the public, and it’s designed to encourage environmental stewardship through education and direct interaction with the natural world. The initiative is made possible with support from the City of Burien and 4Culture.
