Fire investigators are continuing to review the cause of a residential fire in Burien early Friday morning, Jan. 9, 2026, though initial indications point to the fire being accidental, according to King County Fire District No. 2.
The fire department was dispatched at 4:06 a.m. and arrived on scene at 4:12 a.m. to a home accessed by a long driveway off 16th Ave SW, Ray Desmarais, Assistant Chief and Fire Marshal for King County Fire District No. 2 told The B-Town Blog.
Crews found an attached carport fully engulfed, with flames extending into the attic space of the house.
Firefighters pulled hose lines down the driveway to reach the structure and began suppression efforts.
All occupants and pets were able to escape the home, Desmarais said. The occupants suffered only minor injuries while attempting to retrieve items from inside the house.
During the response, there were reports that the fire had spread to neighboring homes. Mutual aid units from Port of Seattle Fire conducted reconnaissance and determined that the fire had not extended into nearby structures.
“Due to the nature and size of the fire on arrival, there was some radiant heat damage to one neighbor’s house that resulted in some cracked windows,” Desmarais said.
No injuries were reported among firefighters from King County Fire District No. 2 or assisting agencies, including Port of Seattle Fire, Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority and Medic One.
The investigation remains open pending completion of a report by the King County Sheriff’s Office, according to Desmarais.

The homeowners received very minor burns opening the chain link gate which was extremely hot from the fire to exit their property. No one went back inside to retrieve items.
