In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Medic One Foundation is providing ‘Gratitude Meals’ seven days a week at sites that have been created to test only first responders.

The effort ensures they stay healthy and can continue to serve on the frontlines of this pandemic.

The first site went into effect last week and since then, dozens of first responders from throughout King County have been tested for the novel coronavirus. The testers themselves are also first responders and so keeping them fed and nourished became a critical component to ensuring these testing sites could effectively continue. Those being tested include the region’s firefighters, ambulance drivers and police, all from multiple jurisdictions.

“Our ‘Gratitude Meals’ program will have the added benefit of supporting our struggling restaurants and caterers in this region,” said Jan Sprake, Medic One Foundation Executive Director. “We understand this is a trying time for everyone, but we feel this will make a big difference in the support of those that need it the most.”

The Gratitude Meals program depends on 100 percent public support, so donations are essential to its success. Click here to donate as well as share notes of gratitude that will be delivered to the first responders.

Since its inception 50 years ago, Medic One has saved more than 7,500 lives that would otherwise have been lost due to cardiac arrest. Our region’s Medic One system is regarded as the world’s model for saving lives and is able to achieve a survival rate for cardiac arrest that is two to three times higher than other communities in the United States due to more than double the amount of training hours our paramedics receive. The Medic One Foundation is the sole supporter of this world-class training program that enables paramedics to provide ER-level care prior to patients reaching the hospital.
