A Highline High School student recently served as a Page in the Washington State House of Representatives, gaining firsthand experience in state government.

Janay Guity Centeno served as a House Page last week in Olympia.

The student was sponsored by State Rep. Edwin Obras (D–Des Moines), and is the child of Dairy Guity of Seattle.

House Pages assist with a wide range of duties that help the Legislature operate efficiently, including presenting the flags, delivering messages to lawmakers on the House floor and distributing materials throughout the Capitol campus.

In addition to their service duties, Pages receive daily civics instruction, draft their own bills and participate in mock committee hearings.

The program is designed to give students a deeper understanding of how state government works while allowing them to contribute directly to legislative operations, Washington House Democrats said.

Guity Centeno is active in athletics and is passionate about shot put, track and field and football.
