On Friday night, Nov 17, 2023, the Highline High Pirates varsity boys football team lost in the second round of the WIAA 2A state tournament against the Enumclaw High Hornets by a score of 30-41.

The first half started out close, but the Hornets swarmed the end zone and started pulling away in the third quarter and hung on to eliminate the Pirates in the win-or-go-home playoff game.

Highline made a valiant effort, but could not come back on the Hornets’ home field, which is also known as the historic “Pete’s Pool.”

Once behind, the Pirates attempted and failed on five 2-point conversion attempts (equal to 10 points) and two onside kicks, and ended up losing by nine points.

Some game highlights for the Pirates:

1st quarter:

  • #1 Ronan Rasmussen completed a 72-yard pass to #8 Adam Estrada for a TD

2nd quarter:

  • 2-yard Rushing TD put the score at Highline 12, Enumclaw 21

3rd quarter:

4th quarter:

The Pirates had another great year under head coach Deontae Cooper, and should stand proud and tall, as they finished with an overall 10-2 record.
